Joy [
שָׂמַח
śāmaḥ ] is returning to God’s mind (Word), discovering Mercy, and Experiencing Restoration (Grace) in His Presence.
When someone receives the Word, Mercy, and Grace- there will be true Joy!
– When I return to God by receiving His Word (His mind), my season ends, and the beginning of a new season immediately starts (see Song of Solomon 2.11)
– The moment I return to God in my thinking (change of mind, by my embracing His thinking), I encounter Mercy. The sin question is settled. “Blot out” (Ps 51, Ac3.19) is my experience, the catalogue of mine and others’ sins is purged from my conscience. That’s mercy! No Debt!
– After Mercy, God gives me grace. Think Luke 15 (prodigal son). Times of Refreshing from the presence of God (Ac3.19b)
This is really one of the secrets to the Holy Spirit’s ministry of Joy that Jesus talked about in Jn16 (also mentioned in Jn 15).
He knew what they were about to go through.
But He also knew that the Holy Spirit’s ministry to them at Pentecost, (though not changing their circumstances), would bring them back through the Word, would show them so much Mercy, and would pour on His Grace, turning their sorrow into
שָׂמַח
śāmaḥ, Joy/rejoicing.
